A juror in the George Zimmerman trial made her first public appearances since the trial reached its verdict on Saturday, saying race did not play a role in the jury?s decision but admitted she believes Zimmerman went "above and beyond" his role as a neighborhood watch member.
Juror B37, who asked to remain her anonymity, said she did not find the prosecution?s witnesses to be credible and that race did not play a role in the jury?s decision.
However, she also acknowledged her belief that Zimmerman went "above and beyond" in his decision to ignore police direction by confronting Trayvon Martin.
Appearing on CNN?s ?Anderson Cooper 360,? she said neither she nor any of the other jurors discussed race when reviewing the case.
?I don?t think it did. If there was another person, Spanish, white, Asian; if they came in the same situation as Trayvon did, I think George would have reacted the same way,? she said.
?I think all of us thought race did not play a role. We never had that discussion. I think he just profiled him because he was the neighborhood watch and he profiled anyone that was acting strange.?
However, she did acknowledge that the jury was initially split on the decision, saying that two jurors initially pushed for a manslaughter charge and a third pushed for a second-degree murder conviction. Eventually, all settled on not guilty verdict.
And in a revealing moment, the juror said Zimmerman went ?above and beyond? acceptable action by confronting Martin.
?[Zimmerman] got displaced by the vandalism in the neighborhood and wanting to catch these people so badly that he went above and beyond what he should have,? she said. ?It just went terribly wrong. I think he?s guilty of not using good judgment. When he was in the car and called 911 he shouldn?t have gotten out of that car.?
Juror B37 says she wants to maintain her anonymity but she has been willing to speak out on the case. As reported earlier on Monday, juror B37 announced plans to write a tell-all book about her experiences on the jury in the Zimmerman trial .
?Nobody knew exactly what happened,? Juror B37 said when asked about the specific details of the case. ?I don?t think anybody knows.?
When asked if she feels sorry for the death of Trayvon Martin, she responded, ?I feel sorry for both of them.?
?I think both of them were responsible for the situation they got themselves into,? she added. ?I think they each could have made the decision to walk away.?
And in another revealing exchange, the juror said that while she agrees with the decision to return Zimmerman?s gun, she at first appeared hesitant when asked if she would want him serving in neighborhood watch in her own neighborhood.
?I think he has every right to carry a gun. I think everyone has a right to carry a gun.?
But Juror B37 paused for several seconds when Cooper asked about serving on a neighborhood watch in her own community.
?If he didn?t go too far,? she said. ?He didn?t stop at the limitations he should have stopped at. I would feel comfortable having George, but I think he?s learned a good lesson. I think he didn?t know when to stop.?
Juror B37 said she never wants to serve on a jury again. And admitted she has concerns about her own safety following the verdict.
?I?m not really scared, but I want to be cautious,? she said. ?We cried over it afterwards. I don?t think any of us could ever do anything like that again.?

PORTLAND -- Andrew Jean-Baptiste had been planning a celebration for just this kind of moment.
The young Portland defender doffed his shirt after his goal in stoppage time gave the Portland Timbers a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.
''Game winner. Nice body. Why not?'' Jean-Baptiste joked.
His header got past Los Angeles goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini in the 94th minute after Ryan Johnson had evened the score at 1-all in the 27th minute. It was Jean-Baptiste's first goal of the season.
With the victory, Portland moved into second place in the Western Conference behind Real Salt Lake.
The Galaxy were without forward Landon Donovan, who is playing with the United States in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Donovan scored his 53rd career international goal and the United States defeated Cuba 4-1 in Salt Lake City earlier on Saturday.
The Timbers were without Will Johnson, playing for Canada, and Rodney Wallace, playing for Costa Rica, in the Gold Cup. Frederic Piquionne, who played in Martinique's first two Gold Cup games, was listed as a reserve for Portland against the Galaxy.
The Galaxy had won two straight, including a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas at home last Sunday.
''We're frustrated, we're angry,'' defender Sean Franklin said. ''We're a good team, we're better than that, with the kind of team and talent we have. We have too much experience on this team to get zero points on the road.''
The Timbers were coming off a 1-0 road loss to the Columbus Crew last weekend, which snapped a 15-match undefeated streak for Portland under first-year coach Caleb Porter.
The Galaxy went ahead 1-0 on Marcelo Sarvas' well-placed header in the 18th minute. The Timbers had not conceded a goal at Jeld-Wen Field in a league game since March 9.
Portland tied it when Darlington Nagbe fed a free kick to a charging Ryan Johnson to beat Cudicini. It was Ryan Johnson's sixth goal of the season, tying him with Will Johnson for the team lead.
Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts defended a dangerously close penalty kick from Juninho, tipping it over the goal in the 37th minute. A few moments later, Ricketts came far out of the goal for a sliding stop on Gyasi Zardes' breakaway.
He made another key save on another Zardes attempt in the 82nd minute.
Jean Baptiste said he never actually saw his goal go in.
''I heard the cheering, I saw the net move and I didn't see their guy get up happy,'' he said. ''I was pretty sure it was a goal.''
Afterward Porter flashed a thumbs-up to the crowd.
''Winning teams, when you need more, you get more,'' porter said. ''Losing teams shrink.''
Attendance was announced at 20,674 for the Timbers' 43rd consecutive sellout.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw on June 19 in Carson. The Galaxy is 4-2-1 all-time over the Timbers, who joined MLS in 2011.

Yoga developed in India (and here there is no accurate date) maybe B.C. 3,000, with the first written description of yoga appearing around B.C. 1500. The Romans and the Greeks had also developed a system of physical fitness and training simultaneously and also recognised the mind, body and spirit connection. Aristotle wrote in B.C. 350 ?The results of a good physical education are not limited to the body alone, but they extend even to the soul itself?. Good health in yoga encompasses the healthy body, the healthy mind and the keen and buoyant spirit. Mind, body, spirit = as one. So why is it today, we seem to know so much less about ourselves than our ancient fathers.
Here is a wonderful exercise to bring your mind?s awareness back into your body. This exercise is credited with being able to add up 1.5 centimetres of height to some people over a 60 day period. It only takes a few minutes. Lie comfortably on your yoga mat, and take a gentle and lengthening stretch ? toes pointed, hands above your head fingers reaching out. Think of your arms and legs as the arms of a compass reaching for north and south. Inhale at the beginning of the stretch over a 3 second count, hold it for 6 seconds and then gently exhale over a 3 second count. The stick pose is best done lying down ? so that you aren?t compounding any postural problems, and so that you can truly free up your vital organs from gravity.
Just think of your posture throughout the day, how cramped your organs are from bending over, sitting crooked, slouching. Now as you lie there just envisage the wonderful, refreshing and revitalising blood flowing to your organs ? oxygen, nutrients, hormones are now rushing unfettered to your major organs. Be aware of what feels different when you stand up again. What hurts that didn?t when you were lying down. Now try and adjust your posture to recreate the ease you felt on the floor. Roll back your shoulders, tuck in your tail and support your organs with a pulled in tummy. Seek alignment. Where is your chin pointing. Where are your eyes looking ? ahead, up or down. Is one shoulder carried higher or more forward than the other. Awareness brings correction.
SINGING TEA ? here is a wonderful recipe for the soul. I call it singing tea as I find the next day I am walking around singing out loud (and in tune which is even more of a miracle) and feeling very happy. ?Take 3 teaspoons of dried lemon balm, add some grated ginger, lemon juice and a bit of honey. Two cups a day are ideal. Steep for 5 minutes and enjoy!

Late last month, President Obama unveiled his climate change "action plan" ? a? series of executive actions and proposals designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions, prepare the nation for the impact of climate change, and take the lead on international efforts to address climate change on a global scale.
As part of his plan, the president said he would direct the federal Environmental Protection Agency to work with the states, industry and other stakeholders to establish carbon pollution standards for new and existing power plants. He also set goals to increase funding in clean energy technology, including investments in advanced biofuels, emerging nuclear technology and clean coal. In addition, he set a goal to double wind and solar electricity generation by 2020.
Naturally, public reaction to his proposals varied in their views on how they would impact the environment and the economy.? What are your thoughts on the topic?? How will Obama's plan affect the economy? Specifically, how would it impact the rail industry? Let us know what you think by sharing a comment here, or by answering this week's poll question on ProgressiveRailroading.com.

Never Been Kissed, the 1999 film about an aspiring reporter who gets a second shot at high school and simultaneously her first kiss ever, may not have won awards, but it sure won our hearts. We give credit to the always affable Drew Barrymore, who played Josie, the budding journalist who has, well, never been kissed.

This evening the biggest city in Canada experienced what The Star (with typical Canadian understatement) calls a?Toronto summer storm. My Twitter buddy Jason Anthony Tetro says that the city took half the rainfall that New York City saw from Sandy?in just three hours.
Other tweeters tell me that Toronto's mayor, his household blacked out like those of 300,000 other Torontonians, has put his family in their SUV, where they can at least beat the heat with air conditioning.
This is the kind of event that gives a bad name to climate-change denialism, which has been a feature of our present Conservative government. But I doubt it will make much difference. Ottawa and the provincial governments will continue to obsess about pulling oil or bitumen or natural gas out of the ground and shipping it to whoever wants to buy it, never mind the climatic and health consequences of burning the stuff.
Consequences like the Lac M?gantic disaster this weekend in Quebec, where a runaway train of tanker cars carrying crude oil derailed, exploded, and blew the downtown out of that little city. Thirteen are known dead, and another 37 or so are still missing.
I suspect many of the denialists, and those who bankroll them, know perfectly well that they're wrecking the planet. Perhaps they think they'll be able to pay for some protected island or mountain valley where they can survive in comfort, like bank robbers who hope to hide out in some law-abiding community where people don't steal from you.
Good luck with that hope, and with the hope of escaping the diseases spreading on the wings of climate change.

Lac-Megantic, Quebec ? Canadian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into a deadly oil train derailment that killed at least 15 people over the weekend.
Quebec police inspector Michel Forget told a news briefing Tuesday that investigators have "discovered elements" that have led to a criminal probe.
Forget did not give details, but he ruled out terrorism.
Officials say 50 people are still missing from Saturday?s disaster, including those dead.
Check back soon for further information. AP?s earlier story is below.
Blackened debris, twisted metal and gas leaks hampered rescue workers? search for perhaps dozens of bodies Tuesday, three days after a runaway oil train smashed into this small lakeside town and incinerated much of its downtown.
Thirteen people were confirmed dead and nearly 40 others were still missing in a catastrophe that raised questions about the safety of transporting oil by rail instead of pipeline.
Investigators zeroed in on whether a blaze on the train a few hours before the disaster set off the deadly chain of events.
Rescue workers labored to reach the bodies believed to be in the ruins.
"This is a very risky environment. We have to secure the safety of those working there. We have some hotspots on the scene. There is some gas," Quebec Provincial Police Sergeant Benoit Richard said.
story continues below
He said recovery efforts had to be halted briefly Monday for health reasons, and some officers had to be removed from the scene. He did not elaborate. The bodies that have been recovered were burned so badly they have yet to be identified.
The Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway train broke loose early Saturday, speeding downhill nearly seven miles (11 kilometers) and jumping the tracks at 63 mph (101 kph) in Lac-Megantic, near the Maine border, investigators said. All but one of the 73 cars were carrying oil. At least five exploded.
The blasts destroyed about 30 buildings, including the Musi-Cafe, a popular bar that was filled at the time, and forced about a third of the town?s 6,000 residents from their homes.
Rail dispatchers had no chance to warn anyone during the runaway train?s 18-minute journey because they didn?t know it was happening themselves, Transportation Safety Board officials said Tuesday. Such warning systems are in place on busier lines but not on secondary lines, said TSB manager Ed Belkaloul.
Resident Gilles Fluet saw the approaching train just before the derailment and explosions.
"It was moving at a hellish speed," he said. "No lights, no signals, nothing at all. There was no warning. It was a black blob that came out of nowhere."
He had just said goodbye to friends at the Musi-Cafe and left. "A half-minute later and I wouldn?t be talking to you right now," he said.
"There are those who ran fast and those who made the right decision. Those who fooled around trying to start their cars to leave the area, there are probably some who burned in them," Fluet said. "And some who weren?t fast enough to escape the river of fire that ran down to the lake, they were roasted."
The same train caught fire hours earlier in a nearby town, and the engine was shut down ? standard operating procedure dictated by the train?s owners, Nantes Fire Chief Patrick Lambert said.
Edward Burkhardt, president and CEO of the railway?s parent company, Rail World Inc., suggested that shutting off the locomotive to put out the fire might have disabled the brakes.
"An hour or so after the locomotive was shut down, the train rolled away," he told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
