LOS ANGELES, California ? The pilot of a Cessna 210 was killed Friday night after the single-engine aircraft crashed minutes after it took off from Santa Monica Airport, according to a CNN news report.
The pilot, a Santa Monica resident, was believed to be alone in the aircraft at the time it crashed into a West Los Angeles residential area and burst into flames roughly three miles away from the airport. There were no structures hit, but early reports said the small plane may have struck a tree.
CNN reported that the small plane accident will be under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman with the Federal Aviation Administration in its Western-Pacific region.
